Why are M&A transactions carried out?

Mainly to establish an external growth strategy or to respond to the entrepreneur’s desire to divest, but also to
  • rationalise the shareholding structure (also in order to manage generational transitions)
  • involve new investors (financial or industrial)
  • improve the company’s credit standing through modifying the composition, also qualitative, of the shareholders’ structure
